Introduction to Economics


The course provides students with the basic analytical tools for understanding the functioning of micro and macroeconomic models through the analysis of issues related to consumption and production, market forms, the real economy, fiscal and monetary policy, and the pathologies of the economic system.

Il corso fornisce agli studenti gli strumenti analitici di base per la comprensione del funzionamento dei modelli micro e macroeconomici attraverso l’analisi delle problematiche riguardanti il consumo e la produzione, le forme di mercato, l’economia reale, la politica fiscale e monetaria, e le patologie del sistema economico.

At the end of the course you'll understand: 

  • the reasons behind the choices of economic agents (consumers and businesses) 
  • the different types of market (perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oil-oil) 
  • the significance of the main macroeconomic indicators 
  • the functioning of the market for goods and money 
  • the instruments of fiscal and monetary policy 
  • the pathologies of the economic system

Knowledge of the elements of linear algebra is required. Resources will be provided in the course page.

The 5-week course is divided into an introductory lesson (the first, presentation of the course) and online lessons (video-lessons) lasting 7-8 minutes.

The certificate of participation and the Badge will be issued after completion of the teaching activities foreseen in the course and after successful completion of the evaluation tests provided.
